The Caledonian Canal, one of the finest engineering feats in Scotland, is a pleasure to walk or sail along.

It provides a navigable route, a short cut, between the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Constructed between 1803 and 1822 and designed by Thomas Telford to avoid the hazardous Pentland Firth on the north coast of the Scottish mainland.

A perfect spot to enjoy the canal and boats is the Tomnahurich Bridge on the way out of Inverness heading along the A82 towards Drumnadrochit, near to the Aquadome.
